Frequently asked questions
How long does a typical treatment session last? All treatment sessions last 1 hour.
What are the treatments you offer?
Acupuncture is the main therapy I use. This is an ancient therapy and involves the insertion of fine needles into channels of energy to stimulate the body's own healing response and help restore its natural balance.
Chinese Patent Herbs are pre prepared pills, tablets and liquids that are formulated to treat specific conditions. I usually use them to complement acupuncture treatments.
Electroacupuncture uses needles in the same points as acupuncture but these needles are attached to a device that emits a pulse that stimulates the acupuncture point. The strength of the pulse can be adjusted to ensure the patient is comfortable. Electroacupuncture is usually used for painful conditions such as sciatica or RSI.
Acupressure Massage is an ancient Chinese healing art that uses finger pressure instead of needles on specific points on the body. I use it alongside Massage, to relieve pain and soothe away tension.
Reiki is an ancient healing art that is a gentle way to restore depleted energy and promote relaxation and well being
How do I know the treatments are safe?
I am fully insured and registered with the British Acupuncture Council and with Stockport Council. This means that I am committed to the highest ethical, safety and hygiene standards within my profession. Certificates for all my qualifications and insurance are on display in my practice room.
Does Acupuncture work?
Yes! Part of its success is due to treatment being individually tailored. In any Acupuncture consultation, the first step is to establish how the patient's body is working and use the information gathered in the consultation to arrive at a Chinese medicine diagnosis. Once I have made a diagnosis, I devise a treatment plan to suit that patient, ensuring that each patient is treated as an individual with individual needs. This applies to all health issues including those relating to fertility.
What if I have a nickel allergy?
Only quality, disposable needles are used for your protection and safety, and, I can use special needles if you have a nickel allergy.
Do I need to do anything before I come for a treatment?
Before coming for a treatment, you should eat a light meal but not within one hour of the start of the treatment. You should drink water but not take alcohol and/or recreational drugs for about 4 hours before (or after) treatments.
Will I have to take my clothes off?
Acupuncture uses needles directly into the skin, never through clothing and some points are located on parts of the body that are normally clothed. Acupressure can be carried out sitting in a chair or lying down on the massage couch, directly on to the skin or through clothing. Massage is usually carried out with the patient lying on the massage couch. You may need to remove some clothing as massage involves the use of oils on the skin. Reiki is usually carried out lying down on the massage couch, through clothing: you only need to remove your shoes.
If you need to remove any of your clothing, I have a safe, warm practice room with plenty of clean, soft towels to cover you and to protect your clothes from massage oils, which will be removed from your skin at the end of the treatment.
